Where It Started
Georgina and I started Reviving Hope Christian Counseling out of a heart for others going to counseling. We saw the need for people going through hard trials in their life and finding a licensed professional counselor who possesses a biblical worldview. We saw this as something lacking among counseling professionals as some counselors will only see things from a clinical perspective and this can take them to a place where clinical methods alone replace a Christian perspective when they contradict each other.
Both of us have also benefited from Christian counselors during seasons in our life. These counselors modeled grace, truth, and patience that no doubt helped us connect with Jesus more deeply.
We wanted to offer a place where people felt secure and assured that they were going to have a licensed professional counselor who saw things from a Christian perspective in their clinical practice.
The Name Behind the Practice
The name of our practice is inspired by Hope, our cherished child, whom we lost to miscarriage at eight weeks. His or her memory fuels our mission. His or her unexpected passing challenged us to embody hope even in our own grief, propelling us to create a refuge where others might find solace and strength.
Jesus is our living hope that ultimately meets us in our grief (1 Peter 1:3). He has met us in our grief of losing our child and holds our child in his arms. We long for the day where we will hold our child with Christ
Why We Became Christian Counselors
Jesus is the ultimate physician who cares for the sick and can ultimately change us. We believe that because of life, death, and resurrection, we have the ultimate hope in Him. He promises one day that he will do away with all that is broken in us and in the world today (Revelation 21:3-4).
It is this hope that helps us in the midst of any hardship because we are promised that our suffering has a time clock. We will not be defined by our hardships. Whether pain we have done or pain done to us, they will not define us. They will pass because of Jesus and he is with us in the midst of them.
A secular or only clinical perspective on counseling does not offer this hope to others. Even though it can have some practical benefits and our clinicians use some of these, the greatest resource for change is Jesus.
What We Believe About Healing
We truly believe that people can change and heal. Sometimes that healing will not happen until we are with Jesus face to face, but sometimes he does change and heal us in this life. We have seen adults and teens heal and change from addiction, anxiety, trauma, and in their marriage. Both Georgina and I have experienced so much change and healing in our lives even though we still have things that we need to work on. Georgina brings that same conviction into her work in trauma therapy, betrayal trauma therapy, couples counseling, and sex and intimacy therapy.
We wanted Reviving Hope to be a place where people encounter therapists who believe that they can change and heal. The moment we stop believing that, then we will close it down.
Come As you Are
Like Jesus, we want to be a place where people feel like they do not have to have it all together to come see us. The truth is that no one has it all together. Both Georgina and I are not removed from this human experience. We are in it with you.
So take the first step with us. Give us a chance. I can promise you that taking that first step of letting others in and getting help with your struggle leads to change over time.
